A Trusted Non-Profit:
Harvest Eco-Salvage is a 501c3 Non-Profit Corporation. In 1999, we began implementing our sustainable building practices as The Eco-Logic Foundation. Today, we operate as Harvest Eco-Salvage. We continue to prove our unwavering dedication to green building and deconstruction. Our program works for both residential and commercial properties. When we assess the scope of work, we look at the structural and non-structural components. Then, we calculate your property donation.
As a 501c3 Non-Profit Corporation, we grant Non-Cash Charitable Tax Deductions. We base these on the market value of in-place real estate improvements that we salvage. An IRS Qualified Real Estate Appraiser determines this. When you work with Harvest Eco-Salvage, we value your materials based on what it would cost to replace them today. (We don’t include the value of the underlying land because it is not within the scope of the donation.)
Our project scope isn’t one-size-fits-all. Sometimes it looks like a total tear down, and sometimes it’s a major remodel. This program isn’t suitable for small remodeling projects. This is because of the appraisal and IRS compliance costs. The IRS recognizes the donor for keeping usable building materials out of our landfills. Not only does this tax deduction value your donated site improvements. It also values the improvement of our community and environment. An IRS Qualified Appraisal backs the donation. Plus, we keep extensive compliance records per IRS rules for our operation.
“It can be immensely profitable to do things a better way.”
— James Wilson Rouse, Pioneering Developer, Philanthropist
We don’t rely on government grant programs, volunteers, or public funding. Instead, the donor covers our operational costs and receives a large tax deduction. This process creates skilled construction jobs. It also diverts unnecessary waste from landfills. Lastly, it supports social service agencies that help people in need.
When a typical 2000 sq. ft. ranch-style home is demolished, a 501c3 building material thrift store can accept appliances, interior doors, a front door, windows, vanities, cabinets, lights, and fixtures. The average IRS valuation for these items is just 10 cents on the dollar. It’s based on what thrift stores can sell them for. A thrift store donation requires donors to defend the valuation of their donation.
When you work with Harvest Eco-Salvage, we include the above and more. An IRS-qualified Real Estate Appraisal determines the value of your donation. Harvest gleans all the above materials. Plus, we collect structural elements, all metals, all concrete, hardware accessories, flooring, other unique features, the site itself, and site improvements like:
An IRS form #8283 substantiates your contribution. It’s duly signed by both the appraiser and Harvest’s Executive Director. A copy of the Appraisal also backs this up. There is also a donation acknowledgment letter from Harvest. The letter states the donated improvements and their appraised value.
“A growing number of US cities are adopting “deconstruction” policies that involve taking structures apart by hand in the name of sustainability.”
“Harvest Eco-Salvage, which has operated in Scottsdale for 16 years, specifically tackles larger deconstruction projects, such as entire houses, and donates reusable materials to other nonprofits, including Stardust and Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona’s ReStores, which sell home building and improvement materials.”

Meet Linda Eales, our Founder. She has over 23 years of experience in deconstruction and environmentally sensitive demolition. Linda brings a wealth of experience from her 42-year career in designing custom homes. She’s a licensed General Contractor and Building Inspector. And she has experience as a Plans Examiner and Green Building Expert. Linda is a true pioneer, having originally co-founded The Eco-Logic Foundation in 1999.
Linda saw the waste generated by standard demolition. It compelled her to find a better method for recycling usable building materials. Her dedication to urban redevelopment and improving the environment led her to her “second career” at Harvest Eco-Salvage.
Linda isn’t alone in her mission. Every Harvest Chapter shares her dedication. We bring decades of experience in:
