“Fantastic experience. Not just pleased. Blown away. Shocked.”

I wanted to pass along a VERY positive and money-saving experience I have had with a company called Harvest Eco-Salvage.  In the past, they have had flyers mailed to the Port Streets. If you are planning to remodel or re-build some or all of your home, this will be of interest to you…

Basic Business model:

You donate your soon-to-be-demolished structure to Harvest and they give you documentation to support a corresponding Tax Deduction.  Conceptually, it is like donating items to Goodwill and getting a receipt in return.

Rough details:

You start with a special audit [appraisal] performed by an auditor certified by the IRS [an IRS-Qualified Appraiser] to perform this type of assessment.  This audit certifies the dollar value of your donated structure. This is your tax deduction. For documentation the audit delivers a considerable package – ours was a 56-page report. If you are happy with the dollar amount, you complete the donation contract and Harvest coordinates with your builder to remove the valuable items from the structure. This ’soft demolition’ recovers lumber, cabinets, light fixtures, doors, windows, wiring, appliances, sinks, countertops, etc. Even concrete is collected and donated to companies that recycle it.

My experience:

I received a flyer in the mail and almost threw it away with the rest of the ‘junk’ mail.  I’m SO glad I paused to read it.  When I did, I’ll be honest, I thought it might be a scam – certainly ‘too good to be true’. So, I asked our builder if he knew about them. He shared his very positive experiences with Harvest.  I checked with the Better Business Bureau: A+ Rating.  I checked with the IRS: everything I read was consistent with what Harvest shared with me.  I sent all the information to our CPA who validated that everything stated by Harvest was legal and consistent with IRS tax laws.  And that the approach was sound and conservative – not a ‘gray’ area or loophole.

So, we committed. I lined up the special audit required and was shocked with the result. Not just pleased. Blown away. Shocked.

Again, sent everything to our CPA.  Again, researched the IRS laws.  Even lined up a phone call to interview Harvest’s founder and CEO.  Everything checked out.

And beyond the substantial financial benefit to you, you are also helping the planet by reducing what gets shipped to landfills.

I am so pleased with the outcome and experience that I feel compelled to share.  If you are undertaking a remodel or rebuild, check them out.  You’re gonna’ thank me.”
